One of the elements that makes CRANBOURN® bougies distinctive is our choice of wax.

Wax and fragrance are arguably the two most important components of a scented candle. The wax plays a crucial role in how fragrance is released into a space, the quality of the flame, and how long the candle burns.

Chez CRANBOURN®, we use a carefully developed blend of sustainable vegetable wax and beeswax in our bougies de luxe. Beeswax is one of nature’s most remarkable yet often overlooked materials, valued for its natural performance and long history of use in candle making. We believe it offers exceptional qualities in terms of fragrance diffusion, burn performance, and sustainability.

One challenge with high-quality natural waxes such as beeswax is that they are significantly more costly to produce than alternative waxes. For this reason, many candles on the market are made with paraffin wax. We always recommend reading product labels carefully so you understand the materials used in the candle you are purchasing. All CRANBOURN® des produits containing sustainably harvested beeswax can be recognised by our 'Abeilles & Botaniques™' trademark featured on the packaging.

Respirez mieux avec la cire d'abeille

Many candles available on the high street are made predominantly from paraffin wax, a material derived from petroleum. When burned, paraffin candles can release small amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and soot into the air, which may affect indoor air quality in poorly ventilated spaces.

For individuals sensitive to airborne particles, such as those with asthma or allergies, maintaining good indoor air quality is particularly important. Choosing candles made from high-quality natural waxes can help reduce unwanted emissions and create a more comfortable atmosphere within the home.

Many types of candle wax require significant processing before they can be used in candle making. Beeswax, by contrast, is produced naturally by honeybees and is already in wax form when harvested. As a result, it requires relatively minimal processing before it can be used.

One of the most distinctive characteristics of beeswax candles is their clean, bright burn. As they burn, beeswax candles can produce negative ions that may help attract airborne particles, such as dust and pollen, encouraging them to fall out of the air.

These qualities are among the reasons we incorporate sustainably sourced beeswax into our CRANBOURN® bougies. Natural waxes help create a clean, refined burn and contribute to a calm, comfortable atmosphere in the home, particularly when enjoyed as part of an evening ritual before bedtime.

Investissez dans la qualité

Candles containing beeswax are often more expensive than those made with other types of wax, but the qualities of this natural material help explain why.

Beeswax has one of the highest melting points among commonly used candle waxes, which contributes to a slower, longer burn when carefully formulated. The flame produced by beeswax candles is also widely admired for its warm, golden light — a soft glow that can help create a calming atmosphere after a day spent in front of bright screens. This gentle illumination is ideal for creating a relaxing ambience in which to unwind at the end of the day.

Beyond their visual appeal, candles made with beeswax also reflect the remarkable work of nature. Honeybees must visit millions of flowers to produce a single pound of beeswax, making it one of the most precious natural materials used in candle making. Each beeswax candle, therefore, represents an extraordinary natural process shaped by the work of pollinators.

Chez CRANBOURN®, we are passionate about supporting the health of bee populations and the wider ecosystem. Bees and other pollinators play a vital role in maintaining biodiversity and sustaining many of the plants that support life on our planet.

Choose quality with confidence

Although beeswax candles are often priced slightly higher than standard Soy candles, for example, their natural qualities help justify the investment. With a relatively high melting point and the potential for a longer, steadier burn when carefully formulated, beeswax candles can offer excellent performance and longevity.

Candles are small everyday luxuries that help you create meaningful rituals within your home. Choosing thoughtfully crafted products allows you to shape atmospheres that feel personal and enduring, rather than relying on short-lived alternatives.

When selecting candles containing beeswax, it is worth considering how they are made. Many formulations combine a proportion of beeswax with vegetable waxes to achieve specific burn characteristics. Understanding the composition of the wax, the quality of the wick, and the materials used in the packaging can help you make a more informed choice.

Chez CRANBOURN®, transparency and responsible sourcing are central to our approach. We believe in creating products that reflect careful craftsmanship while supporting the wellbeing of the natural world. Discover more about our sustainable ethos and our B Corp journey.
