Oud

Family: Thymelaeaceae
Genus: Aquilaria
Species: A. malaccensis

Oud or Agarwood wood chips and oil are sourced from the heartwood of Aquilaria trees that grow in South East Asia.

When trees are attacked by fungal infections, they naturally produce a defensive resin: it is this resinous heartwood which is then harvested as Oud. The wood chips are traditionally burned as incense, or distilled to produce Oud oil.

In Asia, the sacred aroma of Oud incense has been of cultural and religious importance for thousands of years, and it is still widely used today for personal or religious meditation. Oud has also been traded to the Middle East for centuries and has become an integral part of Arabian culture.

Oud is a highly sought-after natural material. As a result, premium quality Oud wood chips and oil have become two of the world’s most expensive naturally occurring materials.

Oud oil has a wide range of health benefits, including analgesic pain relief and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also widely credited with assisting with healing numerous skin disorders.
